Dangerous Curves 2012

Star of Wonder, Dangerous Curves, Las Vegas

Star of Wonder, Dangerous Curves, Las VegasStar of Wonder, Dangerous Curves, Las VegasDangerous Curves, 2012…it has truly been one of the most sensational years in Dangerous Curves history. And, while our history is rather short (should we simply say new?), it has been filled with the love and support of family and friends. However, we never dreamed just how much support we would literally see and feel than when we did our first Dangerous Curves, Indiegogo campaign. Crowd-funding?! That’s for big stars and artists with HUGE email lists and…well, you know…right? NO! We really didn’t know the depth and scope of your huge and generous hearts!¬†

The above pictures show the fruition of that generosity in our sophomore CD called “Star of Wonder”, now available on iTunes, Amazon MP3 and of course, physical copies available by simply emailing us at dangerous curves@cox.net.

If that wasn’t enough, we have been nominated for “Best Cabaret Artist – Female” for the West Coast! WHAT?! We couldn’t be happier! If you have a moment, would you go and vote for us? Here’s the¬†link to vote BroadwayWorld.com,¬†¬†you must complete the voting process in order for your vote to count.¬†

2012. A year filled with new fans and friends, performances, nominations, our newest CD and best of all, the absolute knowledge, that someone is listening. Someone really cares about us and knows us and loves us. Friends, we love you, too. Enjoy your holidays and we wish you a most happy and joyous New Year.

Buckles Wedding at the Bellagio

Karen Michaels Chicksinger with fabulous bride and groom, Christy and Mark!

Spring is here and so is my new webpage! A special note on Wedding Song choices..

In jazz singer on March 23, 2012 at 6:02 pm

I’m sitting at my kitchen table drinking some delish Donut Shop (I LOVE my Keurig!) with The Ellen Show on in the background (Kristin Chenoweth is on!! who do I love more?!) and I am taking a bit of a break from my music. ¬†You see, I have been up since 6am and I have done so much already! Now, before you think I am TOTALLY amazing for getting up early to GTD, I actually had to get up early to warm up my voice for an on-air radio interview! Shut up, that is SO fun and my first one ever!¬†

One of my current clients’ are getting married in April. ¬†I first met them when the groom hired me to sing for his surprise marriage proposal in front of the Bellagio Fountains! Read more about that day, here.¬† They are the on-air talent for K105 and today we had a conversation over the airwaves! ¬†I was so nervous, but Mark led the interview perfectly and it was a total blast! Here’s the link to the interview, my portion starts at about 23:09. They are the sweetest couple and I am so impressed at how much effort they are putting into choosing their wedding music! ¬†I only wish everyone would do that! ¬†Brides and Grooms, take note! This is your special day! ¬†I know that you may not realize just how important your music choices are, but they can truly shape your whole event. ¬†Sit down together with a glass of wine and your iTunes playlist and really THINK about the songs that represent the two of you and your journey of love. ¬†Many times, even your guests will remember a special moment simply by hearing the song associated with it and that makes your ceremony or reception even more memorable. ¬† Look at these fabulous and unique song choices! I cannot wait to sing these songs for them!¬†Image

Spring is here and the weather is so amazing and it is inspiring me to do some literal and figurative Spring cleaning. Yes, I’m cleaning out my pantry and throwing away or donating to a food bank all the food that does not fit into a healthy lifestyle. We are also going to work on the garage as I am going to park INSIDE my garage! Is this you, too?! Lol! A girl can dream! ¬†Lastly, I am so happy to announce my new webpage! ¬†karenmichaelsmusic.com¬†Now, I’ll be honest and tell you that it still needs work and it will continue to be a work in progress. ¬†Time to be brave and put things out there! Take a moment and visit my new site and feel free to leave me constructive criticism! Enjoy a wonderful weekend, take advantage of this gorgeous weather! Breathe deeply, love your family and listen to some great music!¬†

Whitney Houston, new song release, GTD and a Life Coach!

In cd, chicksinger, dangerous curves, female jazz trio, gigs, jazz singer, jazz trio, Karen Michaels, performing, recording studio, weight loss on February 17, 2012 at 10:02 pm

It’s been busy and I have missed you, dear friends! Sometimes, being a working Mommy keeps the pace seemingly beyond my reach. ¬†Many of you may know that I am working on transitioning out of my regular gig (their Social Media policy’s prohibit me from talking about them) and into my own singing, teaching, social media business. ¬†I am truly grateful for the clients and students I have who believe in me and are so encouraging.

My new web page via Weebly is getting really close to it’s unveiling and I just can’t wait! ¬†It’s a lot of work to do it yourself, but the satisfaction of learning and figuring things out are extremely rewarding. ¬†I’m hoping for a March 1st announcement.

My vocal trio, Dangerous Curves just released our newest song, ¬†“Someone To Watch Over Me” arranged by our fab friend, Trini Garza and recorded at E3 Studios. ¬†You can buy it here! ¬†Thursday we had a gig at the South Point, appearing on the Dennis Bono Show! We had the great privilege to share the stage with,¬†Larry Gatlin – singer-songwriter of the Gatlin Brothers,¬†Elisa Fiorillo-Dease¬†– Fabulous Pop Singer Touring with Prince,¬†Traci Kesisian – Beautiful Singer/Actress/Dancer from Broadway and Corrie Sachs – Star of Country Music Super Stars Show and of course, Dennis Bono, himself!

In a completely “keepin’ it real” moment (thanks Randy Jackson, for that phrase I use frequently in my life) I need to GTD faster! ¬†I’m great at list making and using my iPad apps, but sometimes the follow through is lacking. ¬†You know that feeling when you have so much to do, you actually feel immobile? ¬†Or, I get up with great intentions, but the day-to-day business that must be done precludes you from doing what you ACTUALLY want to do? Ugh, frustrating!¬† Well, I just had a wonderful conversation with a neighbor and new friend and she recommended her life coach to me. ¬†I think I am going to try that out. ¬†I’ll let you know how that works out.

Lastly, I feel the need to comment on Whitney Houston and her FAR to early departure from Earth (although I’m sure the angels are singing with that heavenly voice). ¬†I literally cried when I heard that she had died and then as the details came out, I got angry. ¬†HOW did this happen?!?! ¬†We are all painfully aware of her troubled times with drug and alcohol abuse. But, really, HOW did this happen? Lots of people who love her around, a superstar, lots of money and yet a tortured soul at the end, clearly. I can’t answer how it happened, but it reminded me of a truth that is difficult if not downright tough. ¬†We all make our own choices. ¬†We are responsible for our choices and therefore, the consequences. ¬†Yikes, I kinda hate that. ¬†I’ll be honest with you in a very personal way ¬†(back to “keepin it real”!). ¬†I struggle with my weight, so the fact of the matter is, I need to choose better food, more exercise, etc. ¬†I want more money in my savings account, so I need to spend less, save more and continue to work hard. ¬†Simple. ¬†So do it. “Nuff said.

I am going to remember the Whitney Houston who’s voice inspired me and songs gave so much joy. ¬†¬†The girl who’s National Anthem is my clear standard. ¬†And, a¬†woman whose beauty was inside and out, may she rest in eternal peace…..

Happy New Year 2012, Goals and Dangerous Curves!

In jazz singer on December 30, 2011 at 9:56 pm

It has been an amazing year! And, yet I am not sorry to see it go. ¬†There have been a few blips along the way, for sure, but that is what life is about. ¬†Learning how to deal with the blips! ¬†And, I feel even more ready to take on the exciting challenges and changes that are about to take place. ¬†I feel blessed with all that I have learned this year. I have grown my business, Chicksinger Studios and continue to make headway on my goal of being completely self-employed and spending more time with my Little Man. ¬†I have more voice students, booked more weddings and events and added to my writing and social media work. ¬†My vocal trio, Dangerous Curves debuted our newest cabaret show, “Finding Harmony on the Road less traveled…” to rave reviews and was even named one of ¬†LA’s top cabaret acts of 2011! ¬†I am completely and utterly grateful for such recognition of our hard work. ¬†My Mommy blog at Nevada Mama, is helping me to work on my writing in new and exciting ways. ¬†And, of course, my students and my own studies on piano and voice are helping me to bring a new perspective on my voice and the things I am capable of doing.

In fact, these things inspired me to go from New Year’s resolutions to New Year’s goals. ¬†A much more positive way of looking at things, don’t you think? ¬†You KNOW how much I love my iPad 2, so here is a pic of how I wrote them out in one of my fave apps, Noteshelf! ¬†So super cute!

I would love to hear what New Year’s goals you have going on for 2012! ¬†I wish you and all those you love and hold dear a most wonderful New Year’s Eve and here’s to a happy, healthy and prosperous 2012 for us all!

Happy Thanksgiving! New recipes, new shows and Glittering Lights of Las Vegas

In jazz singer on November 22, 2011 at 7:37 pm

Hello my dears! This Chicksinger has been one busy kitten between Mommy, writing, and shows! As always, I feel SO blessed to be working hard and sharing my writing and music with you!

Last Thursday, I felt especially fancy as I was invited to attend a VIP event for Glittering Lights of Las Vegas. In fact, my whole family went and it was fantastic!¬†¬†Even ¬†Santa Claus¬†was at the¬†Las Vegas Motor Speedway¬†show of¬†Glittering Lights, with my family. Clearly, this is an event we will be attending for years to come. ¬†Definitely a new tradition to roll out the holiday season! ¬†You can check out my entire post on my Mommy blog, at Today’s Mama!

Dangerous Curves is my main focus musically at the moment! ¬†Not only are we in the studio working hard on our Christmas EP (single to be released VERY SOON!), but we have had several local shows and are preparing for our Los Angeles cabaret debut at ¬†Sterling’s Upstairs at Vitello’s! If you happen to be in LA on December 4th come have dinner and a show with the Curvy girls! We are including some of our very best songs and a few new arrangements, too!

And, yes, I do dabble now and again in the kitchen and I will be doing the Thanksgiving cooking for 10 guests! I am hoping to debut a new recipe of mushroom bread pudding! ¬†And, I am going to include fresh cranberries in my stuffing for the first time! Whee! Then it’s off to sing I go!

I wish you the most wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by loving family and friends! ¬†Next post will be my New Year’s Resolutions, write me and tell me all about yours!

The Holiday season is here, hold on to your $%@!

Good morning, dear friends. ¬†Sorry for the delay in posting! Now, that November 1st has passed, it’s time to start planning Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas shopping! ¬†I just downloaded the November issue of Martha Stewart in my newsstand for iPad and can’t wait to read it. ¬†I hope it’s before Thanksgiving is over! LOL!

I am so happy to report that the Universe is clearly listening to many of my hopes and dreams! I feel that I am literally running from behind trying to keep up with my dream of transitioning from corporate land to full-time singer, writer and best job of all, Mommy! In the next 5 years (I feel a Jason Robert Brown song coming on!) it is my goal to be fully self-employed and bringing in even more than I do now, which then gives me more time with my sweet Little Man and my fantastic husband. My husband (find him on Twitter at @sincitysinger) has been picking up some of my at-home slack since I am obviously doing ALL my jobs right now and time is at a premium. ¬†He is so supportive and I am so very grateful for his love and help and just want to publicly say so…;-) On to the latest in Chicksinger Land!

I am so fortunate to have added as a client for my Social Media Gal work, Plastic, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Dr. Walton Montegut of New Contours! He is an absolute genius at his work and everyone needs to know about him! ¬†It has been quite fun to learn about this profession. I knew only a little as a patient who has the occasional botox or laser treatment, but I have to tell you, ¬†the things that are going on in this field are utterly astounding! No wonder the Hollywood girls look so young and lovely! What’s even better is that these surgeries, procedures and treatments are becoming increasingly more affordable. ¬†Plus, there are many options for great, low cost financing. ¬†If you ever wish to visit Dr. Montegut’s office, you may comment here and we can work on getting you VIP treatment!¬†

I am loving being one of the local mommy bloggers at Nevada Mama, nationally known as Today’s Mama. ¬†For 2012, my goal is to write bi-monthly. ¬†The ladies who write for Today’s Mama are amazing and inspirational women from all over the country! I learn a great deal about being a Mom, family life, writing and SO much more. ¬†They literally affect and influence my life in such a positive way and it is my goal to do that for someone else. You can follow my blog at Nevada Mama, here.

Corporate events, weddings, cocktail parties and teaching voice lessons have been the order of the day with Chicksinger Studios, LLC! In fact, I need to finish up here soon, as I have 3 lovely young ladies today to teach. My students keep my brain thinking and my voice well warmed up! They are eager to learn about music and singing and their enthusiasm is one of the best motivators I know! Next post, I should have a new video to share with you and I can’t wait!

My vocal trio, Dangerous Curves is fully in planning, scheming and dreaming mode! We are in the studio recording our first Christmas CD! It is thrilling in every way to sing with these girls and we are having a ball in the studio! Wait ’till you hear these arrangements! In addition, we have several shows coming up, one of which is especially exciting to me. We are making our LA cabaret debut at ¬†Sterling’s Upstairs at Vitellos on December 4th! We are literally rehearsing every day and once again I can only go back to thanking my family and all the help they are giving me. ¬†I could never do this without them.

It’s the beginning of the Holiday season so let’s eat, drink, be merry and love as much as possible! ¬†Thanks for letting me share my life with you, dears! ¬†It is a privilege and an honor.

Summer in Sin City!

In jazz singer on August 29, 2011 at 8:26 am

What an amazing summer this Chicksinger has had!!! Where to begin….mmm….I know! I joined an ultra-cool group on Facebook and I really believe that it has been instrumental in many things occurring so let’s start there…

I was immensely fortunate to come across Nancy Tierney and her coaching and mentoring system called “Just An Hour”. ¬†Based on the concept of focusing an hour a day on your project, it has really been a great asset for me. ¬†Not only have I made some new lovely online friends, but I made real and noticeable progress towards my goals! It begins again in September and if you have a dream and you need some nudges, sign up right away here!¬† See you there!

So what sort of things have I been up to, you may ask, and just how did focusing an hour a day help?

Let’s see, my girl group Dangerous Curves took new PR pics and we are rehearsing our first cabaret show to be debuted at Sterling’s Upstairs At Vitellos! Here’s our flyer:

Whatcha think?! Thanks to the oh-so-amazing Lisa Smith for making the flyer like only she can! Check out her Lovin Jazz blog!

Dangerous Curves sang at Jim Caruso’s Cast Party in Vegas this past week and it was a ball! We got to sing “Cloudburst” and “I’m A Woman” and I am so happy it went really well! ¬†The load of talent in this town is really unbelievable. ¬†The highlight for me, however, ¬†was the fact that my husband, Dennis was totally and completely a hit! He sang the hilarious¬†Marcy and Zina song “The Morning After”. ¬†He is one talented man…love you, babe! ¬†Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch are a terrific-ly talented duo of boundless energy and fun! They will be returning to Sin City in September and we already can’t wait!

I’ve been working hard on my solo career as well, learning new tunes, practicing piano, ¬†choosing material for my upcoming 2012 CD and this month’s gigs were proof positive that all this practice is really worth it!

I have a feeling this one may go down as one of my all time fave gigs ever! I was contracted to sing in front of the Bellagio Fountains with the fab guitarist, Rick Chavez, for a surprise proposal! Seriously?! It was SO romantic and she was completely surprised and everyone was clapping and cheering and it was one of those “ahhhh” moments in life that you feel privileged to be a part of. ¬†Today, I sang with Fifth Ave! ¬†I mean really, this is like a dreamy week of singing! Fifth Ave is a vocal jazz, du wop, harmony foursome and absolutely one of my favorite vocal groups ever. ¬†And, they are my friends. ¬†Here we are moments before the show (Jeff is the forehead only) I’m just wondering how one Chicksinger got so lucky?!

Oh right! It all comes back to my “Just An Hour” group, doesn’t it? Now, of course, I did put in the work and wrote out my affirmations and such. ¬†But something tells me, the Universe is listening to all my thoughts and prayers and put all this cool stuff right in front of me….THANK YOU, ¬†GOD!!! ūüôā Happy end-of-summer dear friends!
